Examples of probiotics...

Lactobacillus
  • Produces lactic acid which alters intestinal environment, making it unsuitable for pathogenic bacteria.
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus appears to be most effective in improving lactose metabolism
  • Relieves incident of diarrhoea.

Bifidobaterium
  • Body's first line of natural defense against pathogenic bacteria.
  • Produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid that decrease the pH level of intestine, thus making it unsuitable for pathogenic bacteria.
  • Help to suppress production of harmful toxins such as ammonia
  • Decreases incident of diarrhoea due to decreased pathogenic bacteria.
